About
This professional learning module explores how counsellors can effectively and ethically support clients and families in the context of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD). Drawing on current research and clinical experience, Chris Dudfield introduces a holistic framework that integrates existential, spiritual, and relational dimensions of care. Participants will learn how to engage with clients’ internal concerns (meaning, identity, and beliefs) and relational dynamics (family, community, and cultural contexts) with sensitivity and confidence. The module includes a 45-minute recorded presentation, practical counselling tools, reflective case studies, and a short assessment quiz (80% pass rate required). On completion, participants will understand how to: Recognise spiritual and existential themes in VAD conversations Apply a holistic counselling framework addressing internal and relational needs Use narrative and meaning-making prompts in VAD contexts Navigate cultural, ethical, and faith-based tensions without judgement Uphold professional ethics and counsellor wellbeing when working near the threshold of death Duration: 1 hour (45-minute presentation + 15-minute quiz) Assessment: Multiple-choice quiz (80% pass rate) CPD Category: Professional Skills / Ethics / End-of-Life Care
