FAQ
Are you registered and insured?
Pax Counselling employs Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Registered Counsellors.
We also hold Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance through Focus Insurance.
Do you have a WWVP Card and Criminal History Check?
Yes. Pax Counselling employees hold current WWVP Cards in the Australian Capital Territory and hold a National Police Check.
Do you provide face-to-face or online sessions?
Currently, we see clients via online (zoom).
Do you need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or Referral?
Counsellors do not require a MHCP or Referral to see you.
If you have an MHCP or Referral please bring it with you. It will assist us in understanding how we can assist you.
Is there a Medicare rebate or Bulk Billing?
Counsellors work outside of the Medicare system, so we are unable to provide a Medicare rebate or bulk bill.
However, fees associated with counselling are less than the gap payment charged by other allied-health professionals or psychologists; and are significantly less than full-fee payment by other professionals.
As Pax Counselling is a private counselling practice, we have short wait-lists for booking sessions and a personalised customer service approach. This means we see you quicker, with less stress and less fuss.
What should I expect at my first session?
A Pax Counselling counsellor will greet you and ask you to fill in some background information. During the first session, we will learn about you. In particular, we may ask you to fill out a survey so we can get an idea of where we can best help you in your area of concern.
What should I expect during a session?
We will journey with you, identifying your strengths and give you a new perspective on how to work through your area of concern.
We will listen to you in a non-judgmental manner, occasionally asking questions to help you move forward, with a goal to overcome your challenges.
During the session we may engage you in some unique ways. This may be asking you to tell us a story or to draw a representation of what you are describing.
We may also set ‘homework’ for you to practice once you leave the session; this may assist you if you are challenged with difficulties in the future. At the end of the session, we will check-in with you to ensure you are feeling okay - counselling can trigger strong emotions.
How do I pay?
Payment can be made online at the time of booking via credit card using PayPal. We also can accept payment via credit card, bank transfer or instant phone transfer at the time of the session.
What if I cancel or miss a session?
If you cancel with less than 48hrs notice, or miss a session we will charge for the full session booked.
